Mrs. Knowles, a native of Coffee County, was born Oct. 4, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Richmond and Harriet Gaskins Wilkerson. Daughter, Beth Jean Lynn, preceded her in death. She was a homemaker, a member of Willacoochee Baptist Church and the widow of the late Benjamin Franklin Knowles. Survivors include son, Jimmy Knowles and wife Sharon, Valdosta; sister-in-law, Lucille Knowles, Willacoochee; grandchildren, Melissa Alderman and husband Ricky, Teresa Garrett and husband Johnny, Rusty Minor and wife Judy; great-grandchildren, David Workman, Wade Minor and Alex Garrett; special niece, Catherine Waters and nephew, Roy Wilkerson; numerous other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., today, June 11, 2009, at the Willacoochee Baptist Church in Willacoochee with the Rev. Bill Huffstuttler and the Rev. John C. McMillan officiating. The church choir will sing "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." Also, soloist Wanda Hutcheson will sing "Beulah Land" with Bonnie Kunberger, pianist, and Betty Boatwright, organist. Burial will follow in the Satilla Gardens Cemetery near Douglas. Active pallbearers are John Kunberger, John LIndsey, Phillip Knowles, David Floyd, Edsel Lewis and Johnny McRae. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 3DLeona%26ln%3DKnowles> or The Alzheimer's Foundation.
