Susannah Wesley Lang was named for the wife of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church. Her father Paul M. Lang was a Methodist minister, who lived with his wife Lettie at Sandy Bottom in Atkinson County, GA. The youngest of nine children, she was raised in the family home there until she left to attend college at Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA. She was awarded a degree in home economics in 1948. She student taught in Monticello and in Arkansas, but returned to Monticello when she married Victor E. Lane in December 1948. She taught home economics and worked in the local DFCS office until she joined her husband to work in his grocery store. She had a lifelong love of the Methodist Church and was a faithful camp meeting attendee. She also loved cooking, which she demonstrated by managing the lunchroom at Piedmont Academy after her husdant's death. Sue Lane was preceded in death by her husband Victor E. Lane, her parents, and all of her eight siblings. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, A. Sidney and Cindy Lane of Greesboro; daughters and son in law, L. Elizabeth Lane of Macon and Paul and Bill Funderburke of Lawrenceville; and grandchildren, Joy Marshall Funderburke Gordon, Vic Lane, Matt Lane and William Funderburke. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007 at the Monticello First United Methodist Church in Monticello. Burial in West View Cemetery in Monticello. Dir. John Brown, Jr. officiated. Serving as pallbearers were William Funderburke, Bill Funderburke, Bill Funderburke, Matt Lane, Vic Lane. Jordan Funeral Home of Monticello was in charge of arrangements.
