Atkinson County Citizen - March 13, 2008
 Mrs. Jeanette Mathews, age 62, of Axson, GA passed away Saturday evening, Mary 
1, 2008 at her home following an extended illness.
 A native of Coffee County, Mrs. Matthews was born July 23, 1945, daughter of 
Horace and Gladys Sheffield Melton. She was a long time resident of Lakeland, 
FL before moving to Axson, GA 5 years ago. Mrs. Matthews worked for many years 
as a Senior Secretary for the Polk County Utilities Company before poor health 
forced her retirement. She was a member of the Pearson Church of God of 
Prophecy.
 Survivors include husband, Jim Mathews of Axson, GA; daughter, April McMullins 
and husband Travis of Minneola, FL; Mother Gladys S. Melton of Bartow, FL; 
brothers, Talbert Melton of Ft. Myers, FL, H.L. Melton of Ocala, FL, C.C. 
Melton of Lakeland, FL and Ricky Melton of Bartow, FL; sister Betty Binder of 
Bartow, FL; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
 Funeral services for Mrs. Mathews were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 
at the Pearson Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Hardy Crosby officiating. 
Special musical selections included, "I Can Only Imagine" and "My Home" 
rendered by soloist, Allen Jewell with taped accompaniment and "Amazing Grace" 
rendered by the congregation with accompaniment by pianist, Rita Spikes. Soft 
music for the prelude and postlude was provided by pianist, Rita Spikes. The 
interment followed in the Old Jowers Chapel Cemetery.
 Serving as active pallbearers were D.L. Mercer, Robert Tucker, Kurt Melton, 
John Melton, Will Burch, Chris Moore.
 Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
