A native of Atkinson County, Mr. May was born December 22, 1938 son of Edgar and Leona Lillie Motes May. He had made his home in Rossville, GA before moving back to Pearson 6 years ago. He was a retired construction worker and of the Baptist faith. Mr. May was preceded in death by a son, Russell Wayne May. Survivors include two sons, James May and wife Denise of Rossville, GA and Kris May of Rossville, GA; two daughters, Carol Weston of Monroe, NC and Shannon Eakin and husband Stephen of Rossville, GA; brothers, John May and wife Wanda of Pelham, GA, Kenneth May and wife Patsy of Georgetown, TX, and Jerry May and wife Elaine of Ringgold, GA; sisters Elizabeth May of Pearson, GA and Betty Royals of Douglas, GA and five grandchildren, Steven Weston, Tyler Finley, Stephanie Eakin, Samantha Eakin and Shylah Eakin; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. May were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2006 at the Axson Evangelistic Church with Rev. J.A. Anderson and Rev. William Pope officiating. Special musical selections included, "I Can Only Imagine" rendered by John Lang, soloist and pianist, "Go Rest High On That Mountain" rendered by Faron Royals, soloist and guitarist and "Amazing Grace" rendered by the congregation with Patricia Corbitt accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Patricia Corbitt, pianist. The interment followed in Axson Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Dewayne May, Matthew May, Jeff May, Darrell Royals, Mark Royals and Michael Royals. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
