Nell was born in Pearson, GA and had a broad range of life experience in North C Carolina, California, Alabama, Washington, D.C. and Louisville, Kentucky. She i is remembered by her friends as intelligent, caring and compassionate. Nell a always excelled academically. She graduated from high school at age 16 and was o officer in the Beta Club every year she attended. At age 19 she graduated from c college and took her first teaching job. She later obtained a Master of Public H Health with major in Nutrition and Health Education from Loma Linda University. In her later years, she earned a reputation as an intelligent and engaging member of several clubs at her retirement complex. During her career Nell had man occupations including sales, small biasness management, and food service administration, but her real vocation was always education. In addition to formal teaching at all levels elementary through college, she took every opportunity, to share knowledge with everyone she knew, especially on the subjects of health and nutrition. Nell is also remembered for her generosity toward many people in her life, both friends and strangers. It was not unusual for her to share a meal or offer a spare room to someone who needed help for a w week or for several months. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Elias and Doris Dickerson Deen; a stepmother, Doris McIntyre Deen; and son, Thomas Giles McCorkle. Nell is survived by her son, Doug McCorkle, her brother Robert Deen, her sister Beth Deen Deen Paulk, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, special aunt, Florice Deen Deen; cousins and many friends. Visitation will be at Relihan Funeral Home, Pearson on Friday, Oct. 16 from 6-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Union Hill Church, Saturday, Oct. 1 17 at 3 p.m. Interment will follow in the Union Hill Cemetery.
