Archibald Hospital in Thomasville, GA following a short illness. A native of Atkinson County, was born February 23, 1939, son of Henry and Lorraine Mancil McGovern. He worked for SWMA as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. McGovern was a member of Summyside Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father Henry McGovern and brother, Tom McGovern. Survivors include wife, Libby Fender McGovern of Willacoochee, GA; sons, Ray McGovern and wife Teresa of Brunswick, GA, Michael McGovern of Ocilla, GA, Buddy Jordan and wife Donna of Broxton, GA and Terrell Jordan of Willacoochee, GA; daughters, Mandy McGovern and special friend Bert Reynolds of Douglas, GA, Brandy McGovern Sweat and husband Dune of Ocilla, GA, Rhonda O'Berry and husband Kenny of Manor, GA and Stacey Johnson and husband Donald of Fitzgerald, GA; mother, Lorraine Mancil McGovern of Willacoochee, GA and Linda Stapleton of Douglas, GA; 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. McGovern were held at 2 p.m. Thursday December 18, 2008 at Tanner Church with Rev. Buddy Jordan and Rev. Sim Youngblood officiating. Special musical selections included "Where the Heart Will Never Break Again" and "Keeper of the Door" rendered by the Sweetwater Creek Singers, also "I'll Fly Away" rendered by the congregation with Lila Deems at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Lila Deems, pianist. The interment followed in Sunnyside Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Gary Lee Taylor, Donnie Taylor, Kevin McGovern, Blake Johnson, Mitchell Deems, Casey Wright. Serving as honorary pallbearers were J.W. Anderson, Herman Tucker, G.D. Moore, Larry Johnson, Sid Strickland, Clifford Taft, Danny Hodges, Larry Highsmith. Relihan Funeral Home of the arrangements.
