Mrs. McGovern, a native of Atkinson County, GA, was born September 13, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Selma Merritt Smith. She was a homemaker and the widow of the late Housan McGovern. Mrs. McGovern was a member of the Sunnyside Freewill Baptist Church. She was ve very active in the camellia show and was Chairman of the Farm Bureau Women. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the S Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Teddy Burch officiating. Music was provided b by John Steven Lang who played the piano and sang "Beulah Land." Michael J Johnson also played the organ and sang "Not Afraid to Die." Burial followed in the Arna Church Cemetery in Atkinson Co, GA. Pallbearers were Lee McGovern, Logan McGovern, William Henry Corbitt, Stephen Spradley Spradley, Arron Lollie, Debra Corbitt. Honorary pallbearers were Ruby Merchant, Lila Boyd, Margaret Williams, Betty Bazemore Bazemore, Janice Mobley, Shirley Whitley, Rita Burch, Betty Ann Smith, Odessa Taft, Callie Williams, Jean Kirkland, Lorene McGovern, Lavern Summerlin, Marjorie Giddens, Glenda Lang, Teresa Stults, Janell Taft and other Ladies of t the Church. Survivors include her children, Kenneth Lee (Gay) McGovern of Douglas, GA and Debra (Mann) Corbitt of Axson, GA; grandchildren, William Henry Corbitt, Wendee (Stephen) Spradley, Lee McGovern, Weslee (Arron) Lollie and Logan McGovern; great grandchild, Braydon Lollie; sisters, Margaret Garrett of Jacksonville, FL, Mildred Nalls of Coca Beach, FL, Faye Rentz and Shirley (James) Stankowitz of Hazlehurst, GA; brother, Donnie (Donna) Smith of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law Margie Smith; special caregivers, Margaret Williams and Betty law Margie Smith; special caregivers, Margaret Williams and Betty Bazemore and s several nieces and nephews.
