Born September 3, 1911 in a part of Coffee County that is now Atkinson Co., Mr. McKinnon was the son of Archie and Minnie Morris McKinnon. He was a retired farmer and a former Atkinson County Commissioner. He was a member of New Harmony Grove Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons for many years. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Lawanna Michelle and Jesse Aaron McKinnon and by a great grandson, Jacob McKinnon. Survivors include his wife, Lannie Douglas McKinnon of Pearson, GA; one son Douglas McKinnon and wife Shelba of Pearson, GA; two daughters, Novara Vickers and husband Elle, and Judy Russ and husband Harry, both of Pearson, GA, eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. McKinnon were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at New Harmony Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Wilkes, Rev. Sherwood Nance, and Rev. Don Harper officiating. Special musical selections included "Rock of Ages" and "Amazing Grace" rendered by the congregation and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "Precious Memories" rendered by the New Harmony Grove Church Choir with Al Wayne Hulsey accompanying at the piano. Al Wayne Hulsey, pianist provided soft music for the prelude and postlude. The interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Charlie Russ, Jeremy Russ, Dougie McKinnon, Casey Wright, Josh Davis and Derrick McKinnon. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson was in charge of the arrangements.
