Mr. Morris was born on November 12, 1937, the son of Henry Z. Morris and Ethel Davis Morris. A native of Atkinson County. Mr. Morris began his teaching career at home in Atkinson County where he taught for seven years. Mr. Morris then moved to Citizens Christian Academy in Douglas, GA, where he served as Headmaster, coach, and teacher for ten years. Mr. Morris later worked as a juvenile probation officer and postal employee, and he finished his lengthy public work at Cady Bag Company in Pearson where he worked as a purchasing agent for many years. Not one to remain idle for long, Mr. Morris then started his own business, Morris Pallet Company, where he built and repaired pallets. Mr. Morris continued with this business late in life before retiring due to his health. He was a member of Old TyTy Primitive Baptist church. In Addition to his parents’ he was preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Morris Argo. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Giddens Morris of Pearson; son, Joey Morris and wife, Tammy of Pearson; daughter, Luanne Whittington and husband Dink of Pearson, Brother, Thomas Morris and wife Gail of Sarasota, FL; sister, Shirley Morris of Douglas; three grandchildren, Drew Morris, Blake Morris and Natalee Whittington; special friend, Darlene Barlow of Pearson, GA; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Morris were held Monday, February 9, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Refuge Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Vaughn officiating. The Eulogy was given by Mrs. Maudine Wright. Special music included “Beulah Land” rendered acapella by soloist Derrick Soles. The interment followed in Sweetwater cemetery with “Amazing Grace” offered as a congregation son with Derrick Soles leading. Serving as active pallbearers were Randy Tucker, Glen Walker, James Gore, Lamar Davis, Bruce Vickers, Tony Corbitt, Richard Luke and Brent Rucker. Honorary pallbearers were: Cady Bag Family, Charles Deen, Woodrow McKinnon, Dan O’Steen, Tommy Deems, James Joyce, Jerry Stone, Charlton Gillis, Henry Moore, Clark Tanner, Herman Tucker, Chester Brown, Hinky Mathews, Ray Moon, Jerry David and Mark McKinnon. The family requests that memorials be made to TyTy Primitive Baptist Church or Refuge Primitive Baptist Church in care of Wright Merchant, 316 Willie Rd. Tifton, GA 31794 PH: (229)382-0336.
