Park, age 95 of Edgar Rd. in Axson, GA passed away Saturday morning, March 11, 2006 at his residence following an extended illness. Born March 12, 1910 in Walton County, GA, Mr. Park was the son of Hugh Alonza and Eva Newell Treadwell Park. He had made his home in Waycross, GA for many years before moving to Axson, GA 10 years ago. Mr. Park was a graduate of Emory University and received his Masters Degree from the University of Georgia. He taught and was a principal in many school systems including Pearson High School, Axson, Satilla, Snipesville, Douglas and Jacksonville, FL schools. He retired from the Ware County School System. Mr. Park was also a basketball coach for many years, coaching at Coffee High, Satilla and Pearson High Schools. After retirement he taught at Southwood School in Waycross, GA. He enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, fishing and refinishing furniture. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waycross, GA, the Methodist Men's Association and The Wesley Trotters. He also attended Stokesville Baptist Church in Atkinson County. Survivors include his wife, Marian Minchew Park of Axson, GA; sons, Robert Burton Park and wife Gail of Raleigh, NC and Ray Lamar Park and wife Jo Ann of Axson, GA; daughter Marian Yolanda Croy of Raleigh, NC; brothers, Benjamin Earl Park of Jesup, GA and Clifford Park of Blackshear; GA; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Park were held at 11 a.m. Monday morning, March 13, 2006 at Stokesville Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Pierce, Bishop Lamar Park, Rev. David Blalock and Rev. Edgar Musgrove officiating. Special musical selections included "In The Garden" rendered by soloist, Kary Pierce with Patty Spivey accompanying at the piano, "How Great Thou Art" rendered by soloist, Ed Ray, acappella and "Blessed Assurance" rendered by the congregation with Patty Spivey accompanying at the piano. Soft Music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Patty Spivey, pianist. The interment followed in Stokesville Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were David Park, Scott Stewart, Jimmy Park, Scot Berry, Dwayne Croy and Ray Park. Relihan Funeral Home of Peason was in charge of the arrangements.
