A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Sheffield was born January 14, 1921, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Purvis Paulk. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Willacoochee. Mrs. Sheffield was very active in her church as well as many local social events, she also loved to dance, among many of her favorites, the "Charleston." She was preceded in death by her husband, M.R. "Mack" Sheffield and a sister, Etta Mae Carver. Survivors include one son: Randy Sheffield and wife Dale of Willacoochee, Ga; three daughters: Carole Davis and husband, Don of Willacoochee, GA, Debbie Eckard and husband David of Charleston, SC, and Donna Dixon and husband Tommy of Douglas, GA; one sister, Eltridge Elsberry of Tampa, FL. 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Sheffield were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Willacoochee, GA with Rev. Bill Huffstuttler and Rev. Matt Rutland officiating. Special musical selections included, "I Can Only Imagine" and "Amazing Grace" "My Chains Are Gone" rendered by soloist, Jay Vickers with taped accompaniment. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was provided by Cranford Sutton, pianist. The interment followed in Willacoochee City Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were grandsons: Clint Sheffield, Henry Sheffield, Jay Vickers, Josh Vickers, Michael Eckard and Adam Eckard.
