Mrs. Simmons was born in Clinch County, February 12, 1942, daughter of the late Milton Eugene White and Clessie Spivey White. She was a long time resident of Atkinson County where she was retired from the Atkinson Co. Department of Family and Children Services. Mrs. Simmons served as secretary and treasurer of the Southeastern Evangelistic Association and was a charter member of the Axson Evangelistic Church where she was the church pianist for many years. Survivors include husband, John Simmons of Axson, GA; daughter, Tammy Guthrie and husband Jerry of Axson, GA, mother Clessie Spivey White of Axson, GA. Two stepsons, John Simmons, Jr. and wife Diane of Tifton, GA and David Simmons and wife Carie of Fitzgerald, GA. Three stepdaughters, Sabina Silvoy and husband John of Tifton, GA, Audrey Hipp and husband Joel of Cummings, GA and April Collins and husband Lee of Athens, GA. Two brothers, Roger White and wife Juanita of Axson, GA and Larry White and wife Latrelle of Axson, GA. Sister, Debra Mizell and husband Henry of Douglas, GA. Several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Simmons were held for Mrs. Simmons were held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2006 at the Axson Evangelistic Church with Rev. James Drake and Rev. John Hundley officiating. Special musical selections included "I Bow Down On My Knees and Cry Holy" rendered by Tammy Wood with taped accompaniment and "Look For Me At Jesus Feet" rendered by Roger and Michele Mercer and Shannon Tolle with Roger Mercer accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Roger Mercer, pianist. The interment followed in Axson Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Tracy White, Trevor White, Josh White, John Simmons, Jr., Davis Simmons, Hank Mizell. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Tommy Guthrie, Phillip Guthrie and Paul Guthrie. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
