Mr. Smith, a native of Orlando, FL, had lived in the Willacoochee area for most of his life. He was a retired Recreational Therapy Technician. He was previously employed as a manager of Shoney's of Douglas. He was the son of the late William Marion Smith. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Daniel Smith. Mr. Smith was member of the Willacoochee Church of God. Survivors include: Children, Jason (Christy) Hersey of Pooler, GA, Buffie (Don) Graham of Willacoochee, GA, Becky (B.J.) Kight of West Green, GA, and Tiffany Swann of Willacoochee, GA, Mother: Marion Deloris Smith of Willacoochee, GA, Grandchildren: Christian Hersey of Pooler, GA, Kade Graham, KiRee Hersey, Di Mon Davis, Kenzie Graham all of West Green, GA, Cadence Ryals of Dublin, GA, and Cassidy Graham of Willacoochee, GA; 4 sisters, Linda (John) Carver, Janice (Howard) Laney all of Willacoochee, GA, Teresa (Jimmy) Mathis of Lakeland, GA and Angie (Jake) Bowen of Douglas, GA. A special friend, Rose Mary Hudson of Willacoochee, GA. Several nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held Monday, December 28, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy DeLoach officiating. A special Eulogy was presented by Buster Laney. The Interment followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery, with the closing prayer being rendered by Rev. Barry Peavy. Active pallbearers were, Larry Chestnut, Shawn Smith, Buster Laney, Rickie DePree, Brian Sirmans and Eddie Toole. Honorary pallbearers were, Ronnie Moore, Ricky Crosby and Jackie Clanton. Special musical selections, "Beulah Land," was rendered by Crystal Sirmans and Jessica Benefield with taped music, "The Lighthouse," was rendered by the soloist and pianist, Rev. Jeremy DeLoach, "Brothers Forever," and "Praise You In the Storm," both were presented by CD music. At the graveside, "Amazing Grace/Chains Are Gone," were rendered acappella by the soloist, Jackie Laney. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
