Mr. Smith was born in Coffee County, July 28, 1949, son of 5/8 and Mary Ruth Malone Smith. A long time resident of Pearson, he was a 1967 graduate of Atkinson County High School and attended the University of Georgia. Mr. Smith was the former owner and operator of Smith Building Supply in Pearson, GA. He was a member and former member of many organizations including Pearson Lions Club, Ducks Unlimited, Satilla Lodge F&AM #163 and The Industrial Authority of Atkinson County. He served on the Pearson City Council for 14 years and I term as Mayor of Pearson. He also served on the RDC Council in Waycross, GA and was currently working as a sales associate at Lowe's in Waycross, GA. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pearson. Survivors include daughter, Marlana Smith of Marietta, GA; son, Jonathan K. Smith of Pearson, GA; brother, Michael Smith of Gainesville, GA; sister, Rebecca S. Metts and husband, Daryl of Willacoochee, GA. His fiancee, Paula White of Pearson, GA; niece, nephew and one great nephew also survive. Graveside funeral services and interment for Mr. Smith were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2006 at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. John Jacobs officiating. The eulogy was given by Marilyn Phillips. Special musical selections included, "Just As I Am" rendered by Candace Brown and Paulette Courson with Candace Brown accompanying on the keyboard. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Candace Brown on the keyboard. Serving as active pallbearers were Hampton Giddens, Hal Baxley, Quincy Fender, William White, Wade Brown, Charlie Bray. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Preston Adams, Foster David, L.H. James, Julian Floyd, Johnny Tanner, Jimmy Mullis, Dougal Gillis, Chris McCrea, Larry Courson. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
