Mrs. Smith was born in Clermont, FL, January 9, 1944, daughter of Willie and Ethel Cleo Harrell Giddens. She had been a long time resident of Pearson, GA and had worked as a nurse for many years in this area before poor health forced her retirement. Mrs. Smith was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Roger Smith of Pearson., GA, daughter, Ashlee Young and husband, Travis of Cumming, GA; son, Chip Wright and wife Becky of Douglas, GA; three brothers, Ken Giddens of Pearson, Harold Giddens and wife Nettie of Homerville, GA and Wayne Giddens and wife Virginia of Pearson, GA; four sisters, Karen Moore and husband G. D. of Pearson, GA, Linda Purvis and husband Raymond of Pearson, Henrietta Brown and husband Greg of Pearson, GA and Paula Tanner and husband Floyd of Atkinson, GA; two grandchildren Corey Wright and Cody Wright. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2006 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Walters officiating. Special musical selections included "Leavin On My Mind" rendered by Charles and Tammy Wood with taped accompaniment, "Bowed On My Knees" rendered by Tammy Wood with taped accompaniment and "Amazing Grace" rendered by the congregation with Patricia Corbitt accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Patricia Corbitt, pianist. The interment followed in Red Bluff Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Dennis Giddens, Josh Giddens, Wade Giddens, David Moore, Earl Haskins, Jr., Clay Davis, Darren Balance, Randy Giddens.
