 Gene Spikes, 58, of Pearson died June 9, 2008 at Smith Northview Hospital in 
Valdosta after an extended illness.
 A native of Atkinson County, he was born November 2, 1949 to Juanita Tyson 
Spikes of Pearson and the late Dan Spikes, prior to becoming disabled, he was a 
supervisor of Silver Eagle Transport and attended the Assembly of God Church.
 Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two sons, William "Bart" Spikes 
and Cory Spikes, both of Valdosta; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie and 
Mary Frances Spikes and Danny and Rita Spikes, all of Pearson; two sisters and 
one brother-in-law, Lenita Alexander of Nashville and Shirley and Wayne Fussell 
of Augusta; one grandson,, Caleb Spikes; several nieces and nephews.
 Funeral services were held June 12 at 11 a.m. at Pearson Church of God of 
Prophecy with the Revs. Hardy Crosby and Lonnie Spikes officiating. Special 
musical selections included "Stroll Over Heaven" by soloist and pianist, Rita 
Spikes, "Some Call it Heaven" by Andi Alexander, accompanied by Rita 
Spikes, "Where Angels Fear To Tread" by Allen Jewell by tape accompaniment.
 Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery with special musical selection, "You'll Be 
There," rendered acappella by Andi Alexander.
 Active pallbearers were Wayne Fussell, Darrell Wiggins, Gaythor Bryant, Bryan 
Alexander, Bobby Babbitt, Copeland Hammond.
 Honorary pallbearers were personnel of the Department of Public Safety of the 
Valdosta area.
 Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson was in charge of arrangements.
