A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Spikes was born February 4, 1931, daughter of McCager and Mary Gillis Vickers. She was a homemaker and a member of Knight's Memorial Church in Teeterville, GA. Mrs. Spikes was preceded in death by her husband, Levi "T,I." Spikes, son, Carlie Spikes, and grandson, Carlie Glen Spikes. Survivors include five sons; Wayne Spikes and wife Annie of Pearson, GA, Lonnie Spikes and wife Frances of Pearson, GA, Gary Spikes and wife Shelia of Milan, GA, Jimmy Spikes and wife Wanda of Homerville, GA and Lee Spikes and wife Lisa of Pearson, GA; six daughters, Betty Watson and husband Dennis of Lakeland, GA, Linda Douglas and husband Joe of Broxton, GA, Barbara Edge of Pearson, GA, Barbara Edge of Pearson, Janice and husband Tommy of Pearson, GA, Mary Taylor of Pearson, GA, and Nina Murray of Pearson, GA; daughter in law, Beverly Spikes of Waycross, GA; sister, Doris Deen of Pearson, GA; brother, George Elie Vickers of Pearson, GA; one special grandchild; Chess Watson; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Spikes were held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 at Sweetwater Methodist Church with Rev. Lonnie Spikes, Rev. Jimmy Spikes and Rev. Bobby Fields officiating. Special musical selections included. "I Can Only Imagine' and "Winner Either Way" rendered by Bryan and Shawn Suggs with tape accompaniment, "Will the Circle be Unbroken" rendered by the Teeterville Blue Grass Gospel Group; and "Amazing Grace" rendered by the congregation accompanied by Wanda Spikes at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Wanda Spikes, pianist. The interment followed in Sweetwater Cemetery with a special song, "Gloryland" render acapella by the Teeterville Blue Grass Gospel Group. Serving as active pallbearers were grandsons, Jamie Edge, Lamar Watson, Billy Douglas, Matthew Spikes, Allen Spikes, Lee Spikes. Serving as honorary pallbearers were CNA's from Lakeland Villa Nursing Home. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
