A native of Coffee County, Mr. Strickland was born August 2, 1941. He had made hi his home in Atkinson County for most of his life. He was a retired plumber. Af After retiring he and his wife split their time between their home here and th their home in Jacksonville. As a family they enjoyed traveling to the mountains an and taking cruises. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Douglas, GA and al also attended Westside International Church in Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Strickland and stepfather and m mother, George and Lena Strickland Gardner. Survivors include wife, Joyce Strickland of Pearson, GA; daughter, Michelle Mizell and husband Paul of Pearson, Ga; 3 grandchildren, Britt Mizell, Laken Mizell and Mathew Mizell all of Pearson, GA; sister, Lena McQuaig of Douglas, G GA; 2 brothers, Rev. Gerald Gardner and wife Evaline of Douglas, GA and Glenn G Gardner, Sr. and wife Glenda of Douglas, GA; several nieces and nephews also s survive. Funeral services for Mr. Strickland were held at 3 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013 at the First Assembly of God Church in Douglas, GA with Rev. Marshall Adcock officiating. Eulogies were given by Paul Mizell and George Relihan. Special musical selections included “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” “Papa,” “Wish You Were Here” and “It’s Not Goodbye” rendered by Allison Bailey soloist with Becky Taylor accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and the postlude was played by Othlene Bowman pianist. The interment followed in Antioch Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Laken Mizell, Britt Mizell, Matthew Mizell, Bobby Mc McKinnon, Glenn Gardner, Jr., Tim Gardner, Gregg Gardner. Honorary pallbearers were nieces and nephews, Becky McKinnon and Ralph Troy M Mullis. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
