Atkinson County Citizen- January 24, 2008
  Mr. Johnny Swails, age 59 of Axson, GA passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008 
at his residence following an extended illness.
  A native of Atkinson County, Mr. Swails was born November 16, 1948 son of Lee 
O. and Evelyn Gourley Swails. Mr. Swails had previously worked with Georgia 
Pacific Co. in Pearson, GA for over twenty years in the maintenance department. 
He was a Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. His church membership at 
was Stokesbille Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Tommy 
Swails and Larry Swails.
  Survivors include daughter, Rebecca Swails of Axson, GA; brother, Waid Sawils 
of Pearson, GA; several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services for Mr. Swails were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 
2008 at Stokesville Baptist Church with Bishop Steve Sirmans officiating. 
Special music included, "I Know My Redeemer Lives" sung by soloist Angie Odum 
acappela and "In The Garden" sung by soloist Coline Corbitt acappela at the 
gravesite. Ellen Hardee pianist provided soft music for the prelude and the 
postlude. The interment with Military Honors provided by a Marine Honor Guard 
from the Naval Air Station in Albany, GA followed in Stokesville Cemetery.
  Serving as pallbearers were David Burch, Larry Garrett, Jed Harrell, Jerry 
Burch, Stevie Heath, Gary Vining, Carl Bennett.
 Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
