A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Swindle was born May 18, 1942 daughter of Leon “Zeke” Tanner and Colleen Clement Tanner. She had made her home in Morven, GA for the past 11 years but came back often to Kirkland to visit and stay in the old home place. She worked for many years with the Department of Family and Children’s Services and also the Atkinson County Health Department. She was pr preceded in death by her husband, Charles Swindle. Survivors include, daughter, Etta Smith of Broxton, GA; 3 sons, Leon Johnson a and wife Georgia of Fitzgerald, GA, Steve Johnson of Pearson, GA, and John J Johnson and wife Shelia of Leesburg, GA; sister, Sandra Pittman of Axson, GA; b brothers, Jesse Tanner and wife Marian of Pearson, GA and John W. Tanner and w wife Nell of Pearson, GA; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several n nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Swindle were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Kirkland United Methodist Church with Rev. Marvin Goodman officiating. The Eulogy was given by her nephew Kipp Pittman. Special music selections “In the Garden: and “Amazing Grace” were rendered by the Sweetwater Creek Singers and “Beulah Land” was sung by soloist Derrick Soles. Music for the Prelude and Postl Postlude was by the Sweetwater Creek Singers, D.Q. Pittman (guitar), Neal Gilli Gillis (banjo), Huey Bennett (mandolin). The interment followed in Satilla Memor Memorial Gardens. Serving as active pallbearers were her sons, Leon Johnson and John Johnson and gran grandsons, Leon E. Johnson, II, James S. Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Cody Johnson. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
