Mr. Tanner was born June 17, 17, 1935, to the late Thomas J. Tanner and the late Beadie Idell Guthrie Tan Tanner. he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mark Tanner and Jonathan Tan Tanner. Mr. Tanner, a lifelong resident of Atkinson County, was a prominent farmer of th the Stokesville Community. He was also a former employee of the Coffee County Ta Tax Assessor's Office, of which he was the Chief Tax Assessor for 15 years. He wa was a member of the Gideon's, Atkinson County Board of Education, Atkinson Co County Draft Board, Atkinson County Outstanding Young Farmers, a State Officer wi with the State FFA, and a supporter for Children's Charity Association. Mr. Tanner was a Deacon and Elder of the Stokesville Baptist Church. He had a also served other local churches in the same capacity. Survivors include his wife, Dale Sears Tanner of Axson, GA; children, Marie Dockery and husband, Kim of Concord, NC, Amy Johns and husband, Melvin of Axson, GA, Julie Mathews and husband, Clifton of Nicholls, GA, Jaynee Solomon and husband, Jason and Dee Jae Griffin and husband, Brian all of Douglas, GA; brother Ben Tanner of Axson, GA; sisters, Bonnie Griffis, Jane Vincent and Elva Butler, all of Axson, GA; 13 grandchildren, Jed, Rachael, Jeremy, Lee, Annsley, Cleeg, Tad, Drew, Jo Walker, Lizzie Bea, Ruby Laine, Jessie and laura Jae; six great-grandchildren, Sims, Maudie Lee, Kerbie, Hope, Hannah and Isa Bella; several several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, December 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the St the Stokesville Baptist Church, with Rev. Bobby Pierce, Rev. Edgar Musgrove, and Re and Rev. Floyd Thompkins officiating. Eulogies were presented by Dennis Rollin Rollins. Wayne Pope, Bobby Guthrie, Wade Tanner, Reagin S. Tanner and daught daughters, Marie Dockery and Amy Johns. The interment followed in the Stokesville Cemetery with Rev. Gregory Pope presi presiding at the Graveside. Active pallbearers were Jeremy Johns, Lee Johns, Jed Vickers, Clegg Mathews, Tad Tad Solomon, Tom Tanner, Greg Griffis, and Dr. Benjy Tanner with Jesse Griffin as t as the Bible Bearer. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Pope, Donnie Williams, Keith Yarbrough, George Sto Stockwell, Wade Tanner, Jim Morgan, Hercules Reliford, Warren Spivey, Karen Kir Kirkland, Robby Guthrie, Warren, Brown, Paula Joyner, Jim Carlisle, S. A. Sum Summerlin, Annelle Gillis, Jennelle Taft, Danny Cade, Thad Carter, David Net Nettles, Edwin Davis, Jerry Pope, George McCranie, III. Special musical selections, "Holy Ground" was presented by the soloist, Amy Jo Johns, with cd music, "How Great Thou Art," was presented by the Stokesville Ba Baptist Church Choir, with Patti Spivey, at the piano, "I Just Stopped By," was pr presented by the Musgrove Family, with Bonnie Musgrove at the piano. "We Will Ri Ride," and "I Can Only Imagine," were rendered by the soloist, De Jae Griffin, wi with cd music and "Safe Thou Far," was presented by the Guthrie Family with cd mu music. Prelude and postlude soft hymns were presented by the pianist, Patty Sp Spivey. Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
