A native of Coffee County, Mrs. Tanner was born October 2, 1931, daughter of Quincy and Ruby Moore McKinnon. She had made her home in the Willacoochee and Pearson area for most of her life. While living in Fernandina Beach, FL, she worked for many years as a nurse at the Fernandina Beach Hospital and after moving back to Atkinson County she finished her career in nursing with the Atkinson County Visiting Nurses Association. She was devoted in her Christian faith and was a member of the Kirkland United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hasting Tanner; loving sons, Larry and Dewayne Tanner and sister, Colleen Richardson. Survivors include, four grandchildren, Carrie Tanner and husband Bryon of Douglas, Autumn Tanner Hillis and husband Kyle of Nashville, TN., Brandon Tanner of Douglas, Chad Tanner and wife Michelle of Douglas; five great-grandchildren, Blake, Lauren, Laken, Hasting and Camyron Tanner; special nieces, Pam Richardson of Jacksonville, FL., Renee Gordie and husband Randy of Mims, FL.; great niece Megan Sills and husband James and son Trent of Palm Bay, FL; two sister-in-laws, Imogene Lee and Sharon Mizell of Pearson, and very special friends, Joann Harper and Johnny and Nell Tanner of Pearson. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Tanner were held Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Satilla Memorial Gardens in Douglas, GA with Rev. Edward Mathews officiating. Special musical selections included “How Great thou Art” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” rendered by cd. Interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens. Serving as active pallbearers were Reid Dillingham, Neil Dillingham, Locke Tanner, Lee Pittman, Bryon Tanner, Keith Harper, Chip Lee.
