A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Vickers was born October 12, 1906 daughter of S. A. and Alma Lee Fussell Summerlin. She was a homemaker and a member of New Harmony Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Vickers was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Vickers and a daughter, Louise McKinnon. Survivors include two daughters, Sue Schaffe of Waycross, GA and Cora Jean Crosby and husband Jimmy of Waycross, GA. Six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Vickers were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2006 at New Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Pearson, GA with Rev. Bob Pierce officiating and Mrs. Mavis McKinnon giving the eulogy. Special musical selections included "Serenaded by Angels" rendered by Michael Johnson and Wendy Gurley with taped accompaniment, "The Old Rugged Cross" rendered by Michael Johnson and Wendy Gurley with Michael Johnson accompanying at the piano and "I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone" rendered by Michael Johnson with piano accompaniment. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Michael Johnson, pianist. The interment followed in Carver Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were S.A. Summerlin, Ashley Vickers, Derrick Crosby, Elle Vickers, Melvin McKinnon and Larry Morris. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
