A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Vining was born April 22, 1949, daughter of t the late Moses Edward and Margaret Florence Leavens Giddens. She had made her h home in Jacksonville for the past 48 years. She was an advocate for the h homeless and worked many years serving dinners, especially during Thanksgiving a and Christmas. She loved crafts especially quilting and each time a new family m member arrived she made a quilt for them with their name and date of birth. She w was a member of Old Middleburg Road Baptist Church. Survivors include, longtime companion Jimmy Kennion of Jacksonville, FL; 2 sons, Vinson Vining of Jacksonville, FL and Stanley Vining of Jacksonville, FL; 2 daughters, Lisa Stepp of Sheridan, AR and Coreen Bennett of Axson, GA; 3 b brothers, Tony Bowen of Homestead, FL, John Bowen of Douglas, GA and Fred Allen C Carter of Atlanta, GA; sister, Linda Hoskins of Fitzgerald, GA; 7 grandchildren a and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Vining were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Steve Sirmans officiating. Eulogies were given by Samantha Stepp and Delane Delk. Special musical selections “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art” and “What a Day that Will Be” were rendered by John Lang soloist and pianist. Soft music for the pre prelude and postlude was by John Lang, pianist. The interment followed in Antioch Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Mack Summerlin, Marcus Summerlin, Steve C Crenshaw, Jeffery Bennett, Danny Vining, Samantha Stepp. Relihan Funeral home of Pearson, GA was in charge of the arrangements. .
