A native of Willacoochee, GA. Mr. Wingate was born on August 1, 1948, son of Amos Leonard Sr. and Winnie Brown Wingate. Mr. Wingate was a graduate of Atkinson County High School, ABAC and the University of Georgia. He along with his family owned and operated Wingate Feed and Seed and Wingate Auto Parts in Willacoochee. He also enjoyed farming and working with cattle. He loved animals and took in many stray cats and dogs and nurtured them back to health. He was a member of the NRA and a member of Willacoochee First Baptist Church.. Mr. Wingat Wingate was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Amos Leonard Wingate, Sr. Survivors include, mother, Winnie Brown Wingate of Willacoochee, GA; sisters, Ann W Ann Wingate of Willacoochee, GA, Judy Gillis and husband Dougal, Jr. of Willa Willacoochee, GA; nieces, Alisha Morgan and husband Anthony of Tillman, SC, Kayla Kayla Gillis of Willacoochee, GA, Adranna Gillis of Willacoochee, GA; great nephe nephew, Jaxson Gillis Lowe. Funeral services for Mr. Wingate were held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2011 2011 at the Willacoochee First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Huffstuttler offi officiating. Special musical selections were "Precious Memories" and "Amazing Grac Grace" presented by the Willacoochee First Baptist Church Choir with Bonnie Kunb Kunberger on the piano. Soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Bonn Bonnie Kunberger, pianist. The interment followed in Willacoochee City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Charlton Gillis, Neil Dillingham, Warren Paulk, Tony Be Bell, Jerry Lott, Kenneth Lott, Bryant Lott, Anthony Morgan. Honorary pallbearers were Quinton Dillingham, Reid Dillingham, John Lindsey, J Jerry Mixon, Jack Harper, Jimmy McCrea, Johnny McCrea, Clarence Moore, Junior C Cooper. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA was in charge of arrangements.
