Hand, Ninth District. Isaac H. Hand, a prominent citizen of Baker county, and a delegate to the Convention from the Ninth District, was born in Burke county, June 15th, 1822. His paternal ancestors came from Holland during the seventeenth century and settled in the New World. His mother's family was old and long-established in this State. The subject of this sketch received a good academical education in Houston county. In 1846 he was married to Miss E. L. A. Bowen. After teaching school two years, he studied medicine and received the degree of M. D. in 1851. He practiced six years in Houston county, then moved to Baker county, where he has since resided, pursuing his profession and farming. He has never taken an active part in politics. He was sent as a delegate to the State Convention in 1865, and was a member of the Legislature in 1865-66. Before the war, he was an old line Whig, but since the destruction of that party has acted with the Democrats. He is a man of fine judgment and is well informed on all the live questions of the day. (His wife was actually Elizabeth Laura Antoinette Bower, not Bowen)
