Curtis Nelms and I thought perhaps, though it is scanty information, the notes might help someone in determining if they might belong to one of these families. See Rev. Curtis Nelms for information concerning Jesse Nelms and Lina/Sina Nelms On U.S. GenWeb, Laurens County, Baker County, Mitchell County and Dougherty County. Jesse died in 1818. CASSIE/CASSA ANN NELMS was raised by Josiah Horn after her father died. She was born 1806 - 1810 according to the census records below and she married Asa Johnson. 1832, December l, Laurens County, Georgia, Casana (sp) Nelms of Laurens County, Georgia, sold to Asa Johnson of Laurens County, Georgia, a 1/4th part of land lot # 64. No land district is stated but is said to be part of former Wilkinson County, Georgia, now Laurens County, which would make it a land lot in either the first or second district. Sales price was $40.00. Deed was witnessed by William Tillis and Justice of the Peace Samuel Miller. 1835, April 9, Laurens County, Georgia, Asa Johnson of Montgomery County, Georgia sold to Eli Warren of Laurens County, Georgia 50 acres bounded by lands of William Daniel and Calvin Williams. Said land was conveyed to Johnson from Casend (sp) Nellums. Sales price was $50.00. Deed prepared in Laurens County, Georgia and was witnessed by James Moore and Justice of the Peace E. D. Johnston, Asa 19 Atkinson, Shadrick 23 Atkinson, Henry D. 20 1860 Dougherty County, Georgia Census 382-382 Nelems, E. 35 (male, born in Baker County) E. T. 48 (female, born Jefferson County, Ga.) John C. 10 (born Baker County) Johnson, Cassia 54 (born N.C.) Brand?, Julia F. 22 (born Stewart County, Ga.) 1870 Dougherty County, Georgia Census Reynold, B.F. and family listed and in same household: Johnson, Cassa 62 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - EDMUND NELMS' guardian was Josiah Horn after his father died. Nothing further was located about him but he may have been listed on later censusses under the name of Josiah Horn or he may have even been raised as a Horn and is listed Edmund Horn. This is speculation only because he could have also died. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SARAH (SALLY) ANN NELMS chose William Daniel to be her guardian after her father's death. She married October 25, 1821 in Laurens County, Georgia to Abel Royal, marriage performed by Justice of the Peace Thomas Sanders. The name Royal was also found spelled Royals, Ryal, Ryals. 1822, March, Laurens County, Georgia, Plaintiff was Thomas, Defendants were the administrators of the estate of James Beaty. Witnesses were William O'Neal, John Thomas, Gillis Ryal,David Blackshear, and Abel Ryals. 1822, September, Laurens County, Georgia, Plaintiff was Thomas, defendant was the estate of James Beaty. Witnesses were David Blackshear, Abel Ryals, Gillis Ryals and John Tully. 1830, October 21, Laurens County, Georgia, Sophia Ryals Will: son, Samuel Montgomery, son Abel, son Travis, son Gillis, son James E. and daughter, Lucy. Executor Gillis Ryals.
