The funeral service will be at noon Monday, May 13, 2002 from Springfield Baptist Church in Baker County with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Henry Hogan will officiate. A native of Baker County, Mrs. Singletary was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. She attended schools in Georgia and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Albany State University. Mrs. Singletary was a dedicated and innovative pioneer in the field of education. She was appointed principal of a one room school in Baker County and later taught at several elementary schools in Albany. She had positive influences and patiences with children contributed to a good academic foundation for many students. After retirement, Mrs. Singletary remained in Albany for several years, but later moved to Atlanta to be close to her granddaughter and family. She remained there until her death. She traveled throughout the United States and Canada. She would often reminisce about her travels to different cities, pointing out things that impressed her most about each city. No matter where her travels took her, it was evident that her heart was at home and with her church, Springfield Baptist Church. One of her favorite statements to her grandchildren and others was, "Put God First in Your Life". She not only preached this, but also practiced this in her own life, as evidence by her longevity on this earth. She will be missed for many reasons; her smile, her joking mannerism, her business like nature, and her knowledge and wisdom. May she rest in peace. Survivors include three grandchildren, Retired Col. James (Shellia) McKan of Herndon, VA, Kathleen McKan of Burke, VA, Delores (Lawrence) Reese, of Atlanta, GA; seven great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and many many friends.
