(Bob) Short, one of Georgia's outstanding criminal lawyers who died in Phoebe Putney Hospital Thursday night after a short illness, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at his residence in Newton by the Rev. R. H. Forrester of Leesburg. Interment will follow in the Newton Cemetery. Mr. Short, who served two terms as Solicitory-general of the Albany Judicial Circuit, became noted as one of the most able prosecuting attorneys in Georgia. He also served as president of the Albany Bar Association. A lifelong resident of Newton, Mr. Short was graduated from the Atlanta Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1923. He has argued cases in courts ranging from those of magistrates to the United States Supreme Court, in which he obtained a verdict for his client in the celebrated Screws case appealed from the Albany District United States Court. At the time of his death, he was both City Attorney of Newton and County Attorney of Baker County. Mr. Short is survived by his wife; one son, Robert Jr., a student at North Georgia College preparing to enter the United States Military Academy; and two aunts. Active pallbearers for the funeral include R. L. Hall, J. C. Durham, J. E. Simmons, H. C. Jernigan, C. A. Hall Jr. and Ed Hall. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Albany Bar Association, Baker County officials, and the Newton City Council. The Albany Undertaking Company is in charge of arrangements.
