Briscoe to the Pr. Ch. Griffin, GA. Mr. H.C. Bard received by letter from Pr. Ch. Cuthbert, GA. Mrs. Alice Carrington received by letter from Methodist Ch, Milledgeville. Permission given Ladies Society to appoint a Committee of their Society to look after and visit families in the congregation. 6 Mar 1893 Session met, present: Rev. D.W. Brannen, Mod..Rev. M.C. Britt, Elders W.E. Reynolds, I.L. Harris and T.T. Windsor. Mr. And Mrs. E.C. Brunson received by letter from 1st Pr. Ch. Atlanta. Collection ordered to be taken up next Sabbath morning for the suffering by the late tornado in North GA. 2 Apr 1893 Sunday morning. Following appeared before the Session and on examination were admitted to the sealing ordinances of the church: James H. McMillan (Baptism), John Rupel Hamil (Baptism), Floire Harrel, (Baptism), Hattie McMillan (Baptism). Bernard H. Hawkins, Kirby P. Hawkins, John J. Craig, Ola Elizabeth Skinner, Annie Charlotte Edwards, Essie Evelina Edwards, Mary Ann Hawkins, Corine Anne Crawford, Julia Trippe, Mary Abbie Crawford, Claude Foster Hendrix, Mamie Carlton Bethune and all received publickly into the membership of the church. 8 Apr 1893 Session Minutes examined and approved by order of Presbyter. J.K. Smith, Moderator. EDITOR’s NOTE: There followed “Narrative Year Ending April 1st, 1893 covering a page and a half from which the following historical or genealogical extracts are listed: “To the Presbytery of Augusta – Greeting – At the time the last annual narrative from the Milledgeville Church was submitted by the Session…the church was without a Pastor. On the second Sabbath in May last, Rev. D.W. Brannen a recent graduate from the Princeton Theological Seminary, began to serve the Church…in less than six months he was called to the pastorate of a unanimous vote of the church and congregation…In conclusion, the Session rejoices in being able to report a recent gracious outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. At the invitation of the pastor and Session, Rev. E.O. Guerrant, pastor of -----Church in Kentucky, conducted a series of meetings in the church continuing for some ten days or more…meeting of the Session held Apr 5th, 1893.” 15 Apr 1893 Mrs. Sarah Wood appeared before the Session and on examination upon personal piety was received by Session to the membership of this church. 20 Aug 1893 Session appointed a committee to prepare a memorial of Elder T.T. Windsor, deceased, and report the same at the regular meeting Sep 4. 4 Sep 1893 Letter of dismission granted to Miss Bessie Fox to First Presbyterian Church, Brunswick, GA 2 Oct 1893 Pastor authorized to ascertain the state of mind of two members continuously absenting themselves from church – Joseph Miller and Thomas Lamar 8 Oct 1893 Narrative (semi-annual). “The Sunday morning service is always well attended – the seating capacity of the Church being severely tested to accommodate the people. We are sorry the same cannot be said of the night service…the session reports the removal by death of two of its oldest and most valued members. In the death of Elder T.T. Windsor, whose devoted service to our church, covering a period of 45 years, was an inspiration to all…and of Elder Wm. H. Hall, dearly-beloved, whose counsel and prayers were our delight…have entertained a great loss…Adjourned with prayer. W.E. Reynolds, Clerk Pro tem.” 6 Oct 1893 Pastor reported that according to the instructions of Session, he had seen the two members. Joseph Miller and Thomas B. Lamar, the latter of whom promised to attend church..With Bro. Miller he could not get an audience. Elder Harris and Reynolds with the Pastor as chm ex officio, were appointed a committee to prepare a programme of exercises for the memorial service in honor of Elders. T.T. Windsor and W.H. Hall, dec. Oct 1893 On Sunday evening a memorial service was held in the church in honor of Elders T.T. Windsor and Wm. H. Hall. Elders W.E. Reynolds and D.L. Harris read memorials of these brethren. 1894 7 Jan 1894 The following persons, having been previously received by Session, were publicly admitted to membership in this church: Fred Vernon Plumstead, Mamie E. Brown, Mary G. McKinley – the two former of whom were baptized. Pastor announced the reception by letter of the following: Mrs. Nettie Lou Andrews, from Greenville, GA Pr. Ch; Dr. George C. and Mrs. Lilian S. Probst from the Pr. Ch, Walhalla, SC; Mrs. Alice Tunnell, from 1st Pr. Ch, Macon, GA 7 Jan 1894 (Note gives date of Session meeting as 14 Jan) The following persons were received on profession: Mary Frances Harris; Walter Julian Blake; Lucille J. Blake, and Emma Y. Davis. Also Mrs. Ossie O. Plumstead was received by letter from the Griffin, GA, M.E. Church 5 Mar 1894 Permission was granted the Colored Pres. Church to hold the Spring meeting of Presbytery in the basement of our church. The request of local W.C.T.U. to hold monthly (?Demo rest?) contests in basement of church was laid on the table until next meeting. 11 Mar 1894 Mrs. Pauline Woodward was received from the Barnesville Baptist Church. Mrs.----Hall was received upon certificate from the Olive Baptist Church, Clarke County, KY 25 Mar 1894 Narrative report to Presbytery signed by J.C. Woodward and Andrew Craig, committee. 16 Apr 1894 Session refused the request of the WCTU for use of the church basement for their public meetings. Miss L.J. Blake was at her own request granted a letter of dismission to the Pr. Ch. At Griffin, GA 1895 11 Jan 1895 Elder W.E. Reynolds was elected Clerk of Session. Miss Mary Andrews resigned as organist and Miss Mary Conn was chosen in her stead, at a salary of $60.00 per annum. 13 Feb 1895 Mrs. F. M. Hall was received by certificate from the Pr. Ch. at Brunswick. The request of Col. Miller Greive to be restored to fellowship of the Church was considered. The action of Session on Col. Greiv’s Case in 1867 was interpreted to mean an indefinite suspension, and he was restored to fellowship upon his statement made to Session. 3 Apr 1895 Moved and carried that the Ladies Aid Society be asked to advance the money for the Presbyterial Assessment – the amount to be refunded. The “Narrative” to Presbytery included: “The financial depression has had its effect upon our collections for the various causes. Many of our members do not contribute so liberally as they would if they were able.” 5 Apr 1895 Approved Apr 5, 1895, Sparta, GA, E.G. Smith, Moderator, , M.C. Britt, Stated Clerk. 23 Jul 1895 Alexander Craig and Legare J. Lamar were received into full fellowship of the church upon a profession of their belief in Christ, and their names were ordered enrolled upon the church book. 14 Jul 1895 Mrs.---Strong was received upon certificate from the Eatonton Pres. Church. 16 Sep 1895 Dr. Bakman, Sweetwater, TN invited to begin a meeting on first Sunday in Oct next. Certificates of dismission granted to the following members to connect themselves with the First Pr. Ch. Cattanooga: Elder Andrew Cr4aig; Mrs. Elizabeth D. Craig, Mary Ann, Rachel, Andrewnia, Robert J, Johnnie J, Alexander J, and Elizabeth Craig. Bessie H. Fox was dismissed to 1st Pr. Ch, Darien, GA 6 Oct 1895 Miss Loula Schmidt, Louise Case, and Jennie Reynolds appeared before the Session, and upon examination were received into full communion with the church. 6 Nov 1895 Miss Evelyn Johnson and Miss K. Johnson were received in full fellowship with the church, upon profession of faith in Christ. N.N. Harris was received by certificate from the Pr. Ch. at Clinton, SC. Memorial to Elder Iverson Louis Harris, MD, born 21 Nov 1835 in Milledgeville and died at the old family homestead at midnight on 11 Nov 1895, lacking just nine days of being 60 year old; son of Judge Iverson L. Harris, a legislator and jurist. On his mother’s side Dr. Harris was descended from Scotch-Irish stock. Attended Oglethorpe University. Graduated in 1858 from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He practiced in Albany for a time and then moved to Bloutsville, Jones County, GA. Dr. Harris enlisted as a private in the command of Capt. Du Rigon in Milledgeville of the Governor’s Horse Guards. With the company he entered the State service at Big Shanty near Marietta, in May 1861. The Horse Guards was attached to Phillip’s Legion and mustered into service of the Confederacy 5 Jul 1861. Dr. Harris served through the campaign in West Virginia, where Dr. Connell, Surgeon of the Legion, recommended him for appointment as Assistant Surgeon. He requested transfer to the 59th Georgia Regiment (formed in the spring of 1862 with Col. Jack Brown in Command) in order to be near his brother Charles, an officer in the 59th. He was made Surgeon and served with the 59th until the end of the war. With the surrender of Lee, Dr. Harris returned to Milledgeville to continue the practice of medicine. He was examined and admitted to the communion of First Pr. Ch. at Milledgeville upon profession of faith, 8 Feb 1865. In 1876 he was married to Miss (P?) Burnett of Sparta, GA. While residing in Macon, upon learning of his father’s serious illness in Milledgeville, he at once gave up a lucrative business and returned to Milledgeville. On 24 Sep 1883, he was elected an Elder in Milledgeville Church. He was appointed to the State Board of Examining Physicians, and was Secretary until it was dissolved. 1896 5 Jan 1896 Present: Rev. D.W. Brannen, Moderator, Elders W.G. Hawkins, J.C. Woodward, and W.E. Reynolds, Clerk. At the close of the sermon at the night service, the Session met and ordained Guy C. McKinly and Louis C. Hall, Elders, and Dr. G. C. Probst, Deacon. 3 Feb 1896 Miss Mary Conn reelected organist for the term of one year. Letters of dismission granted to Mr. And Mrs. Holt to join the Pr. Ch. At Marietta, GA. Authorized that a Missionary Society be organized among the young people of the Church and directed that Mrs. C.P. Crawford be requested to assume the management of the same. 15 Feb 1896 Session met at house of Mr. Joseph T. Lane. Present: Rev. D.W. Brannen, Moderator. Elders J.C. Woodward, L.C. Hall, W.E. Reynolds, Mr. J. T. Lane was restored to full communion and fellowship after he expressed penitence for his sin. 23 Feb 1896 At his own request W.M. Tucker was dismissed to join the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. Mrs. D.W. Brannen was received by letter from the M.E. Church, South, Milledgeville. Capt. C.H. Andrews was received by letter from the Pr. Ch. at Monticello, FL. 8 Mar 1896 G.H. Reid received by letter from Pr. Ch. At Blackshear. Miss Estelle Donalson received into full communion upon profession of her faith in Christ. 15 Mar 1896 Misses Mary Lee Brooks and Helen Lamar Skinner received into the church upon profession of faith. Miss Mattie Helen Reagan granted letter of dismission to Pr. Ch. At McDonough, GA
