Narrative to the Presbytery of Augusta Greeting: The Milledgeville Church has not during the year just closed been blessed with any marked manifestations of the Holy Spirit’s presence, but the Session is happy to report that there have been many evidences of His gentle ministrations. One aged brother has come, after many years, and with a penitent heart has sought and obtained restoration to the Church. Several others have been led to cast in their lot with God’s people, five of them from the Sunday School. Many have been drawn into a more excellent way of living, all sure signs that the Spirit has been in the Word and in the heart of God’s children. The Pastor has rightly divided the Word from Sabbath to Sabbath, giving to each his portion. The people have gladly heard the truth; many pondering it in their hearts and illustrating it in their lifes. The Elders and Deacons have as a rule been diligent and efficient in the discharge of their official obligations. So far, as we know, our members are consistent in their attendance upon the preaching of the Word, especially at the morning services. The night and prayer meeting services are not so well attended. Our people are liberal in contributing of their substance to the support of the gospel. The session would particularly acknowledge the fidelity and zeal of the two auxiliary societies of the Church, the Ladies Aid, and the Ladies Foreign Missionary Societies. These earnest Christian women are full of faith and good works. We suppose the Sabbath is observed with about the same degree of reverence by our people as is common among Presbyterian churches. Our church is free from intemperance and worldly amusements in a marked degree. Nothing is due on the pastor’s salary. For reasons well known to the Presbytery no effort is made to preach the gospel to the Negroes. As the report will show, the children of the church largely attend the Sunday School. Some of the elders are teachers in the school, and the pastor was always present until other engagements demanded his presence elsewhere. Since our last report the Session and the Church have been called to mourn the loss of an Elder and a Deacon beloved, in the persons of Dr. I.L. Harris and Weems Nisbet. But in our sorrow we have the comfort which comes from the assurance that our brethren have been called from labor to refreshment. Each a valiant soldier in the church militant, he has laid down his armour at the feet of the Savior and been given a crown of rejoicing in the church triumphant. As our ranks have been thinned by the great reaper, others have been called to the work. The mantle of fathers, beloved by the Lord, have fallen upon their sons, one of whom bears this greeting to the Court of the Lord, freighted with our united prayers that His benedictions may rest upon the labors of our Fathers and Brethren. Meeting closed with benediction. W.E. Reynolds, clerk 11 Apr 1896 Examined and approved by the Presbytery of Augusta 11 Apr 1896, with the following exceptions: 1.
