HENRY GOODMAN On Saturday morning last, at three o'clock, God whispered to the spirit of Mrs. Henry GOODMAN, and it quickly and peacefully winged its way to its eternal place. For years, the body of this most excellent; lady had been racked with disease and tortured with pain. Our people, all of whom knew her and loved her, have deeply sympathized with her in her suffering, and with her fond and devoted husband. The disease which resulted fatally seized her just a week ago, and it ravages defied the skill and care of physician, friend and nurse. MRS. GOODMAN's birth-place was in this city; she was born February 22nd, 1840' the daughter of JOSIAH DOLES and of MARTHA DOLES, formerly Martha PIERCE, the Sister of Dr. LOVICK PIERCE, the great Methodist Minister Preacher. She was the youngest Sister of General GEORGE DOLES. In 1860 she was Married to C. D. SMITH, who lost his life in April 1865, as a Confederate Soldier, in the Battles around Petersburg. The result of that union was one child, a son, C.D. SMITH, who preceeded her to the grave more tha a year ago. On February 15, 1871, she married Mr. Henry GOODMAN, and their thirty years of married life have been a continuous illustration of loyal, patient devotion, and constant loving affection. One child, dying in infancy, was the fruit of this marriage. She was buried on Sunday morning, at half past nine, the funeral services being held at the home, she had so long presided over, and were conducted by Rev. J. H. MASHBURN, of the Methodist Church, of which the deceased and her husband were both faithful members. Of near relatives she leaves one sister, MRS. MARY WRIGHT and three neices, and three young grand-children, Children of her son, C.D. SMITH. Her breaved husband had the universal sympathy of our people. his patient, unconquerable devotion to her has been known among us all. Amidst the cares of a busy business left, his gentleness in her affliction, his constant thoughfulness and care, his constant watchfulness have made a picture of surpassing beauty in this community. The sweet, faithful, loving spirit which was the life of his life, is gone forever from the earth, and the heart of this people, all of whom love and honor him and knew and loved her, is wounded and grieved at the sad dispensation of Providence. It is well, for the end of the Valley of the shadow of death, is a sunbeam of happiness forever. Additional Comments: Martha DOLES was Married to Cosby Dawson SMITH and then married Henry GOODMAN.
