Those who have known her for many years, say that the above figures give her age correctly. She was the mother of 13 children, and had 11 grand children, 44 great grand children and one great- great-grand child. Additional Comments: You have a posting under Newspaper Records titled Julia Mitchell Oldest Woman in Georgia. I wanted to add to this story. Her name was actually Jane Gilbert Mitchell Brooks she was my great great great grandmother on my father's side of the family (both his mother and father). She is listed as a FPOC in 1860 along with several of her children and grandchildren under the name of Gilbert and Brooks. I have also copied her obit from the Union Recorder (see above). She is also listed in the Dead Book as James Mitchell. She is listed on the 1842 tax rolls with Dr. John J. Mitchell as her agent. Along with her daughter Jane Mitchell (who later changed her name to McComb). On October 12, 1887 an invoice was made for 38.00 to pay for a casket to W & J Caraker signed by Frank & Charley Steele for the Grandmother (my great grandfather and his brother). http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/baldwin/newspapers/nw1585juliamit.txt http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/baldwin/newspapers/nw1491janebroo.txt File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/baldwin/obits/m/mitchell10758gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
