Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net December 29, 2007, 10:47 am The Macon Telegraph July 7, 1937 The Macon Telegraph Jesse Taylor, 89, Confederate Veteran Succumbs Milledgeville, GA July 7 [1937] Funeral services for Jesse Taylor, 89, one of two surviving Confederate War veterans in Baldwin county, will be held from Mt. Pleasant church Thursday morning at to o'clock. He died Tuesday night following an illness of three weeks. Burial will be the Batson Cemetery. Surviving are two sons, J.F. and J.L. Taylor of Milledgeville: two daughters, Mrs. D.E. Dykes of Macon and Mrs. A.B. Noble of Miami. ===== The Union Reporter Mr. Jessie Taylor Taken by Death Funearl Held Today for 89 Year old Confederate Guard One of the last Confederate Veterans in this section, Mr. Jessie Taylor, died July 6th after a three weeks illness. Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. from the home of his son, Mr. J.F. Taylor, who resides in the old W.B. Richardson home on the river road leading to Toomsboro. The Rev. J.F. McCluney will officiate and interment will be in Batson cemetery. Mr. Taylor enlisted in the Confederate army when a little over 15 years of age. He served guard duty at the stockade in Macon and the prison at Andersonville. Called to the font, the served through the campaigns in the West. Mr. Taylor served until the end of the war in 1865 and was paroled in the State House, in this city. He served under Captain Walter Paine, Co "D", of the 25th Georgia Reserve. Mr. Taylor's death leaves only one Confederate veteran in this county, Judge B.C. Ward. He was 89 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by four children: J.F. and J.L. Taylor of this county and Mrs. Dora Dokes of Macon and Mrs. A.B. Noble of Miami, Fla.
