Mr. Thomas J. Cater, of Macon, who married Miss Mabelle Moore Wednesday evening, arrived in the city with a party of friends on the previous evening. Imagine the couple’s surprise and embarrassment when they learned Wednesday morning that printed circulars had been distributed over the city of which this is a copy: “ANNOUNCEMENT’ Mr. Thos. J. Cater, of Macon (slightly bald already) and Miss Mabelle Moore, of Milledgeville (accustomed to being obeyed) Will be married this afternoon at The First Methodist Church at Five O’Clock “All who were not formally invited to the ceremony are hereby invited to the INFORMAL send off at the Ga. R.R. Depot at five o’clock.” Many were shocked when they read these circulars, but when they came downtown and found them still tacked up on posts and in public places they “blew up.” The troubles of this popular couple did not end here, however, not by many embarrassing nonplusses. When the start was made to the church, a hack followed, from which also the music in cowbell bugle was given the public gratuitous, while ? announced the coming event. After the ceremony, and on reaching the depot, it was found that the train was also placarded and all the travelers awaited the bridal party with full instructions. Some seemed to enjoy and excuse the jokers, but most people thought it was carried entirely to far. The parties who perpetrated the joke are supposed to be the groom’s friends who accompanied him from Macon. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.5 Kb
