Office of the Probate Judge of Baldwin County, Georgia In the name of God amen. I John Pitts being in strong mind but weak in body make this my last will and testament. I bequeath to my beloved wife Maria Pitts a Negro man named Prince a Girl named Patience a woman named Cate Fib and a Girl named Alsey. I bequeath unto my beloved son Jack Pitts a couple of Negro men by the name of Ralph and Jarrel a woman named Jency and her three children Cintha Joe and Silas. I bequeath unto my beloved son Noel Pitts two Negro men named Abner & Jerry a woman named Winny her son Saul and a Girl called little Milbery. I bequeath unto my beloved Daughter Mary Pitts a Negro man Denice a negro woman named Clole and three of her children Zach Letty and Simon and a boy called Warren. I bequeath unto my beloved Daughter Henrietta Pitts a Negro man named Jordan a woman called Nance and her children Ralph Lewis Bob Charlotte and Siah. I bequeath unto my beloved son Ira W. Pitts Four Negro boys named Tipp Watson Edmund and Abram a Negro woman called Big Mulbery and her Daughter Carthia Cherry. I bequeath unto my beloved son Payton T. Pitts two Negro men called Catoe and Balaam a woman called Liddy and her children Nelson and Rhody also a boy called Cascoctt. I bequeath unto my beloved son William F. Pitts a negro man named Tom a woman called Margret and her children Moning Edy Beccy and Jacob also a boy called Jacinth. I bequeath unto my beloved wife Maria Pitts one third of my land during her natural life the other two thirds to be sold and equally divided among my children. I also give into my wife Maria Pitts three horses a mare called Jin another called Queen and Dick five cows and calves three ploughs and gears thirty barrels of corn five hundred weight seed cotton one thousand weight of Pork two feather beds and furniture three potts and tea kettle six chairs tables and crockery ware the balance of the crop to be sold and equally divided among my children after one thousand eight of clean cotton is taken out for my son Payton. If either Payton Ira or William should die before they have a lawful heir their property shall go to the other two, but if two of them should die before they arrive to the age of twenty one years one half of their estate shall be divided equally among the elder children. I bequeath unto Elijah Boadin Pitts and Elizabeth Archibald Pitts the negroes which Thomas Prestin is to purchase with the twenty five hundred dollars which he has in his possession in order to buy Negroes with if they should arrive at the age of twenty one or have a lawful heir but if they should die under this age the property shall be equally divided between my children. All my property which is not given away is to be sold and equally divided among my children. My wish and desire is that my two eldest sons Jack and Noel shall have the management of my four youngest children's property Henrietta Ira Payton and William Flournoy until they arrive at the age of fourteen years they are then at liberty to choose for themselves. I annominate and appoint Jack and Noel Pitts my sons my Executors. Pitts knowing that he is dead I expect that my wife is pregnant I therefore will and bequeath until the child which my wife now goes with four of the Negroes which I gave to the said William F. Pitts namely one negro man named Tom one woman named Maiget and her two children Eady and Beck should the child arrive to the age of twenty one years or be lawfully married but if not it belongs to Jack and Noel until Ira and Payton arrives to the age of twenty one. I will and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary E. Pitts one negro by name Jacinth I will and bequeath unto Ira and Payton one negro woman named moning & her increase but if they die before they arrive to the age of twenty one years the said negro belongs to Jack and Noel but if Ira or Payton should die the said Negro moning belongs to the survivor. I will and bequeath unto my son Noel Pitts one Negro boy named Jacob until he arrives to the age of twenty one and the remainder part of his life to my Daughter Henrietta Pitts I wish this peace of writing to be annexed to my will. his John X Pitts mark Proven in open Court the 1st of Nov. 1819.
