Heavy rains had fallen in Banks during the night. The rumbling noise of the coming danger awoke the people from their slumbers, and in less than a twinkling the houses were being lifted up in air and dashed to pieces like doll houses. Trees were wrenched from their roots, and heavy timbers were carried about at a furious rate. The house of Mr. Thomas Stephens was blown around so variously that no two timbers can be found again. The death list is heavy. Mr. Thomas Stephens & his son were killed instantly. A second son was lifted up by the wind, carried one hundred yeards and thrown violently against a tree. He is dangerously, perhaps fatally, injured. Mr. & Mrs. Meadors were also killed. There are reports of other deaths and many people seriously wounded. The storm passed over. At Nicholson great damage was done.
