Chinault. He died on June 18, of fever, and was buried June 20, at Winn’s burying ground near Lula. After the grave had been prepared, the corpse carried to it and all the funeral rites performed, the coffin was lowered in the vault, the grave was just begun to be filled, a strange noise was heard that sounded like music from a harp. The crowd was considerably agitated, and a general commotion followed. No one knew what or where it was. To some it appeared to be in the grave, and to others in the trees. There is no doubt about there being a strange noise being heard, one that will in all probability never be explained this side of eternity. Rev. G.H. Cartledge, who was conducting the funeral rites, says he did not hear the noise, as he is a little deaf, but noticed the congregation was excited, and that there was something unusual operating upon the audience. Just what caused the noise, or what it was, it is highly probably will never be explained.
