Homer Morris officiating, and burial was in the churchyard. Mr. Hudgins died Sunday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Sheffield, in Rootstown, Ohio, after a long illness. Born in Hall County, he was a son of the late I. D. and Emma Jane Hudgins, well-known couple, whose families were linked with the early history of the county. Mr. Hudgins taught school in this section for almost 20 years, was a Sabbath school superintendent, deacon and church clerk, and adult leader, his active association with the Baptist church extending over a period of 60 years. He was best known, however, for his work as a horticulturist and propagator, some of his discoveries eliciting national acclaim. In the field of civil engineering and landscape designing his work called him into many fields. While engaged in this work at Decatur, he also served as superintendent of the orphan's home at that place. At various times he also filled the position of superintendent of the Atlanta Floral Company in that city, and the Blue Ridge Park Nurseries in Gainesville. In addition to his daughter, he is survived by Hubert Oscar Hudgins of Atlanta; 4 sisters, Mrs. Ellen Stewart of Norwood, Mrs. Addie Brooks of Ben Hill, Mrs. M. J. Ethridge and Mrs. Nettie Barton of Atlanta.
