He was born in Banks County on January 26, 1920, and was the son of the late William Jefferson and May Waters Turner. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Commander of the Homer American Legion, a member of the Ruritan Club of Banks County, president of the Farm Bureau, Banks County Tax Receiver, an active volunteer for the FFA Club, a retired farmer, member of the Cattleman’s Association, and a federal poultry inspector for the Department of Agriculture. Mr. Turner was a veteran, having served in the United States armed forces during World War II. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Edith Poole Turner; daughter, Charlotte Harris; grandson, Blake Cochran; brothers, Pope Turner, Byron Turner, W.F. Turner; sisters, Mildred Chamber, Jennie turner, Ellen Turner, Rose Turner, Avarilla Carpenter, and Margaret Turk. Survivors include his wife, Frances Lewallen Turner, Gillsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Calvin Johnson, Carrollton, Nancy and Jewell Cochran, Ringgold, Linda and Donald Wilson, Gillsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Bill and April Turner, Gillsville, Jeff Turner, Homer; grandchildren, Ginger Wall, Winder, Tracy Thompson, Atlanta, Shelley Johnson, Jackson, Tenn., Russell Johnson, Knoxville, Tenn., Blaze Turner and Casey Turner, both of Gillsville; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, August 4, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Calhoun officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Flat United Methodist Church cemetery.
