RUSSELL 7 NOVEMBER 1898 Col. R. B. Russell, of Winder, who becomes judge on January 1, 1899, is comparatively a young man, being not more than forty years of age. A key to his success is given in anecdote which we have heard of him. Once he was asked how he managed to secure the election when he was running for office. His reply was: "I learned long ago that the vote of the man who needed his breeches patched was worth as much as the vote of your broadcloth citizen." Col. Russell graduated from the University of Georgia in the class of 1879 =. In the following year he was elected to represent Clark county in the legislature, and for six years he was the representative of that good county. in 1888 he made the race for solicitor general of the Western Circuit against Col. Ed. Brown, the incumbent at that time, and was elected. For eight years he was solicitor general, making a record to be proud of. In 1896,he was beaten in the race for the solicitor general by Col. C. H. Brand. Now in 1898 Col. R. B. Russell is judge of the Superior Court in the Western Circuit.
