C. V. Dillard The Grand Master of the universe in His wisdom has seen fit to remove from our midst our esteemed friend and brother, C. V. Dillard, on the 2nd day of June, 1921. Bro. Dillard was born October 19, 1894, being 26 years, 7 months and 13 days old at the time of his death. He married the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Casper on October 12, 1913, and to this union were born three children, two boys and a girl, all of which survive him. He also leaves a father, four brothers, three sisters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death. Bro Dillard was a quiet and peaceable man. He gave himself to Christ on August 22, 1913, at the Christian church of Midway and was a loyal member of his church until his death. Bro. Dillard joined the Odd Fellows of Giles Lodge No. 362 by form of initiation on October 27, 1917, and made us a good member, and lived the life all Odd Fellows should live until death. He was given a fraternal burial by his Order, Bro. W. C. Sorrells conducting the ceremonies as Noble Grand at Christian Chapel Church. His funeral was conducted by Rev. Stanley R. Grubb. In the death of Bro. Dillard, his church and lodge feel the loss of a good member, and his community a good neighbor. He was loyal to his country, an honest, true and brave man, ever ready at all times to help those in distress. Bro. Dillard was a true husband and father to his family and through this love his home life was happy. It was hard to give him up, but God, for His own purpose, has seen fit to take him home, though he will live long in our memory. Therefore, be it resolved by Giles Lodge, No. 362, I. O. O. F. that we extended to Sister Dillard and children our heartfelt sympathy in their sorrow and pray God's blessings upon them that in the "Sweet bye and bye" they may meet beyond the veil where suffering and sorrow and separation will be no more. Resolved, further that these be sent to the Winder news for publication and a copy to our dear sister Dillard. W. C. Sorrel R. R. Martin James Lackey Mr. Charner Dillard Dead The death angel came to the home of Mr. Charner Dillard and carried him away to rest on June 2nd. He was 26 years, 7 months and 13 days old on the day of his death. He was buried at Chapel church, the funeral being conducted by Rev. Stanley R. Grubb. Charner leaves a wife and three little children besides his father, Mr. Chas. Dillard, and four brothers and three sisters, and many other relatives to mourn his loss. A large number of Odd Fellows took charge of his remains and buried him with honors at the graveyard. We thank the friends for the beautiful flowers that were placed on the casket. We also thank our friends and neighbors for their goodness and kindness through his sickness and at his death. There is a vacant place in his home that never can be filled. A FRIEND. Additional Comments: The above is a copy from a newspaper clipping of Ora Belle Manus, one of the three children mentioned in the obit. The clipping states that he leaves two boys and a girl. This is wrong, it is two girls and one boy.
