Bartow County Georgia Bios McDaniel McMaree File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Harold" Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/crawford.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm PINE LOG COMMUNITY PIONEER McDaniel McMaree My grandmother Thelma McMaree was b 1911, the youngest of 14 children. Her father was McDaniel McMaree who went by Mack and Daniel. Her mother was Mattie Woody who went by Mattie, Mary and May. Thelma's older brothers and sister were born in Fairmont (Now in Gordon County) just north of Pine Log. The family continously traveled up and down Whitfield/Murray, Walker, Cass, Gordon and Bartow counties. I believe they were from Tennessee but that is just a clue. Mattie died during the Spanish Flu epidemic. McDaniel moonshined on the Etowah river. He made enough money to buy land and grow cotton. He also built three houses and ran a store on Moon Street (Now m.l.k.) in Cartersville. He had a resturant north of Cartersville. The family also lived around Crow Springs. The difficulty in tracing this family is that three McMaree family bibles were destroyed and three Woody family bibles were destroyed. The name McMaree has been misspelled as McCree, McMore, McMarie, McMare. Ink was spilled on their census page. Thelma was the first to read or write. McDaniel McMaree's father was Joseph Josiah McMaree. He was married to a Wilson. ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
