Cartersville, Ga., February 4.--The trial of Charlie Jones for the murder of Jim Young, a negro, several months ago, commenced yesterday. This is a very interesting case, as Jones is a brother to Rev. Sam P. Jones, the evangelist. Yesterday and today have been taken up with evidence. So far, nothing sensational has occurred. The trial will end about Friday. No one can tell what the verdict will be. Great interest is manifested, and the courthouse is crowded by both white and black. The Prisoner Makes a Statement. Cartersville, Ga., February 5.--The evidence in the trial of Charles T. Jones, for the murder of the negro Jim Young, was concluded here today. Jones made a statement of two hours in length this afternoon, and it is generally thought that this statement will clear him, as it was evident from first to last that he was telling the whole truth. He reviewed the entire case, telling everything for or against him. The argument will begin tomorrow, and close about Friday. The courthouse is packed with negroes and white people, and the excitement increases. Public opinion favors Jones's release. Sam Jones's Brother. Cartersville, Ga., February 6--At 11 o'clock the jury, in the Jones case, rendered a verdict of not guilty. Such a scene was never before witnessed in this courthouse.
