Akin, of Cartersville, is a great blow to Georgia. Judge Akin was a strong Christian man who was sure to stand for the right. He was an active member of the Methodist Church and was a man of much influence and a power for good. He was president of the State Senate and one of the strong supporters of the prohibition bill. He had been a leading figure in politics and the legal profession, and Masonic fraternity for a number of years. Many Georgians mourn his death. Judge Akin’s death followed closely that of his mother, Mrs. Mary F. Akin, who in feeble health hearing of her son’s serious illness, fainted and could not be revived. She died just twelve hours before the death of her illustrious son occurred.
