Ford, mayor of this city, died at his home here this morning at 11 o'clock of heart failure, induced by general debility. Colonel Ford was 71 years of age. He was born in Dickson, Tennessee, but moved to this county in 1854. In 1861 he raised a company that went into the civil war, being attached to the Eighteenth Georgia regiment. He was made captain of the company and afterwards was promoted to lieutenant colonel of the regiment. He was a brave officer and stood by the cause until Appomatox, being constantly with his regiment, which fought in Malvern Hill, Gaines' Farm, Second Manassas, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg and a dozen other notable engagements. In 1868 he was elected representative of the county in the legislature. He was serving his second continuous term as mayor when he died, and had the position a number of times. His funeral will occur from his home tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The business houses will close during the funeral hour as a mark of respect, and the city officials will attend the funeral in a body. P. M. B. Young camp of veterans will also attend in a body.
