A. V. McConnell, from some brain affection, his mind became partially aberrated (sic). On Thursday the 7th inst., he shot himself in the chest. The bullet was cut out by Dr. Humphress of Acworth, and Dr. J. O. McConnell brother of the deceased. He died the 12th, and was buried on the 13th inst at New Hope church, Bartow Co. in the presence of the largest and saddest concourse of people ever assembled at the grave yard. Mr. McConnel was fully conscious from the time he was shot till his death, but did not remember the shooting or how he was hurt. The deceased was 23 years of age, was married to Miss Amanda Conner in 1879, whom he leaves with two children to mourn and deeply feel the loss. J. A. V. McConnell was grandson of James McConnell of Acworth, son of Capt J H McConnell who was mortally wounded at Gettysburg his mother died when he was a child. He was also a nephew of J P McConnell of Canton. The McConnells were the largest and most substantial pioneer family in north Georgia He died with faith in Christ ashis (sic) Saviour. When his grand father bade him good by just before his death, he said--"We'll not meet here any more but will meet in Heaven' At the precise hour of his burial, the sad wife at home became the mother of another child.
