Atlanta Constitution, 18 May 1870
Burned To Death.- Miss Mary Sanford, of Cartersville, seventeen years of age, 
was so severely burned on Saturday night last that she died in consequence.  
She had filled a lamp, and in filling it, some of the oil ran over the side of 
the lamp, unnoticed by her.  When the lamp was lighted, the flame communicated 
to the oil on the side of the lamp.  Miss Sanford dropped the lamp, when, 
breaking by the fall, the contents ignited and communicated to her dress.
