S. Shelman Body will be taken to Cartersville Today for Interment There Pleasant Stovall Shelman, a prominent citizen of Cartersville, Ga., died at 7 o'clock last night at the Elkin-Cooper sanitarium, on Luckie street, after an illness of three weeks with a complication of diseases. The body will be taken to Cartersville, Ga., today where the funeral services will be conducted in the Episcopal church saturday morning. Mr. Shelman was the eldest son of Captain and Mrs. C. T. Shelman, of Bartow county. He was born November 30, 1851. He was the proprietor of the Shelman hotel, in Cartersville, at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Leila Dallis, of LaGrange,; two brothers, Charles and Robert Shelman of Etowah Heights, and three sisters, Misses Elle, Cecilia, and Maggie Shelman, of Etowah Heights. Erwin Street; Cartersville, Georgia 30120 (770)387-5604 Transcribed between April 17 - July 16, 2004 The cemetery was originally part of Ebenezer Methodist Church. The church was moved to Cartersville in 1848 and is now the "Sam Jones Memorial Methodist Church" This cemetery is now owned by the City of Cartersville. Oak Hill Cemetery is located less than 5 minutes from the courthouse, at 319 North Erwin Street, Cartersville, GA 30210. The front gate to the cemetery is on Erwin Street, the back gate is on Cassville Road.
