His health began to decline about the first of March, and about six or seven weeks ago he took to his room from which he came no more alive. The cause of his death was a disease of the liver upon which, the doctor says, were formed two or three abscesses. He suffered very greatly, especially during the past week. The deceased was a native of Pickens district, S. C., where he was born in 1821, and consequently he was 59 years old. He came to Cherokee county in 1838, where he resided until 1853, when he came to Cartersville, then a small village of shanties, and was engaged in merchandise until the war broke out. Since then he has been similarly engaged and in trading. Mr. Stephens was a consistent member of the Baptist church and left the pleasing assurance to his friends that he saw his way clear and hoped they would meet him in heaven. He was a peaceable and good citizen. We sympathize with his friends in their bereavement. ---Cartersville Free Press.
